Boys Basketball
2009/2010 AYL Basketball Rules

The Panthers offer basketball for boys from 2nd through 5th grades.  The Panthers Basketball teams are put together based on the boys’ grade in school, and not their ages.  Players may “play-up” one year, but are not allowed to “play-down” (example, a first-grader is allowed to play on a second grade team; however, a third grader could not play on a second-grade team).

If you are interested in a girls program please contact Matt Barnett at panthers@hoops4you.com.

The number of teams that the Panthers can field is limited due to competition from other basketball organizations in the Littleton area for gym time. The Panthers will only accept complete team registrations. Unfortunately, individual registrations cannot be accepted at this time. Acceptance of new teams is based on available gym practice time with preference to returning teams. If gym time is available, teams will be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis.

Registration will open September 1st and will close September 30th. Late registrations will only be accepted if space is still available.

Dates & Deadlines:

September 1 - Registration Opens.

September 30 - Registration Closes.

October 18 - 6:00pm Mandatory Panthers Coaches Meeting.

November 1 - Practices Begin.

November 21 - Panther Scrimmage Day.

December 4, 5 - Games Begin.

Please email Matt Barnett @ panthers@hoops4you.com for information regarding Panthers Basketball.  Practices will begin the first week of November.  The season consists of 8 games played December through February (with a two-week Christmas break), and ends with a year-end tournament.  Practices vary based on gym availability, but typically most teams practice about 2 hours per week.  Games are played on Friday nights and Saturdays at schools throughout the AYL territory.

*Mandatory Coaches Meeting - A coach must attend in order to receive practice time.

Uniforms:

Uniforms are available for purchase at PROformance Apparel, 6905 S. Broadway, Littleton, 80122.  The uniform consists of a reversible mesh jersey.  Please contact your coach for more information on the uniform and the jersey number availability.

Divisions/Level of Play:

The Basketball teams play against other participating AYL teams and are entered into one of two divisions based upon the level of player and teams’ skills and previous AYL experience. Coaches must indicate which level they would like their team to play.

  • 1-League:  For more experienced players and teams.  Will play a more-competitive level of play.
  • 0-League:  The most competitive level.  Teams have typically played a couple of seasons together.

Registration:

Due to the limited number of gym availability, the Panthers can not always guarantee a spot for every team interested in joining. Head coach and assistant coach must complete a background check before your team can register. Registration will be online this year - after your coach's background check has been completed he will receive a team code for you to enter the registration system. Registration is $160 this year and includes a Panthers Basketball T-Shirt.

For team registration availability and information, please contact the Panthers Basketball Coordinator, Matt Barnett @ panthers@hoops4you.com.

The Panthers have partnered with the "Hoops 4 You, LLC" basketball academy to offer team training and individual player development.  For more information please go to the "Hoops 4 You" website:  www.hoops4you.com
