Divisions of Play:
The AYL places players based upon age and NOT grade. The player's age as of May 31st is used to determine proper placement. A player is allowed to play up one age level or can play down one level if he makes the play down weight.
For most age groups, the AYL is broken into 3 divisions of play. The NFC is the highest level of competition the AYL offers. The AFC is the largest division of play. The CFC is designed for new players, teams or coaches that are new to football. All Divisions are competitive and offer a level of play geared towards an individual player, coach and teams experience. There is no NFC division at the 6 and 7 year old levels of play.
The following table details the age classifications, the eligible play down weights and the weight restrictions. Patch players are ineligible for backfield play. For information regarding the rules governing patch player eligibility please review the Football Rule Book on the AYL football rules page.
